President and Chief Executive Officer
As president, CEO and member of the board of directors, Mark Hatton is responsible for setting Core Security’s strategic direction and overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations.
With over 20 years of progressively diverse general management, sales and operations experience, Hatton has established a proven track record for generating revenue, building operations and providing successful leadership and direction. He has held senior roles with companies ranging from venture capital-backed, early-stage software vendors to a Fortune 500 information technology services and distribution organization.
Prior to joining CORE, Hatton was president of North American operations for Sophos. During his tenure, he was instrumental in significantly growing the company’s North American business and transforming the company into the one of the fastest growing and largest independent security vendors in the industry
Hatton holds an MBA from Boston University, Massachusetts and a BA Communication from Westfield State College, Massachusetts. In 2006, he was inducted as a member into the prestigious Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), which includes more than 10,000 young global leaders in 80 nations.
Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations and CFO
As Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations and CFO, John O’Brien is responsible for management of CORE’s financial and administrative functions as well as leadership of the Company’s day-to-day business operations.
O’Brien comes to CORE with more than 25 years of financial and operations management experience in the high-technology sector. Prior to joining CORE, O’Brien served as EVP and CFO for Macgregor, Inc., a privately-held provider of software and connectivity services to the investment management industry, where he played an integral role in growing the company and its eventual sale to ITG, a financial services technology provider. O’Brien also served as CFO for Exchange Applications, Inc., a leading provider of analytic CRM solutions. Under O’Brien’s leadership, Exchange Applications successfully went from a private to a publicly-held company.
Earlier in his career, O’Brien held various senior-level financial management positions at Computervision Corporation, Wang Laboratories, Avid Technology and Advanced Modular Solutions. He began his career with Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young).
O’Brien is a CPA and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in accounting from Northeastern University.
Senior Vice President of Products and Engineering
As SVP Products and Engineering, Milan Shah drives Core Security’s product management and development functions. His primary focus is on building and evolving a suite of innovative Security Testing and Measurement (STM) products, including enterprise-class productivity applications, SaaS solutions, and specialized STM offerings for corporate, government and military organizations.
Prior to joining CORE, Shah served as vice president of engineering in the Identity and Access Management group at CA where he led the engineering of products acquired via the Netegrity acquisition. Prior to CA, Mr. Shah was the vice president of engineering at IMLogic where he was a founding team member and contributed to the development of enterprise-class server solutions before the company was acquired by Symantec, and before that as development manager in Microsoft’s Exchange product group.
Shah graduated from The University of Illinois with a degree in Computer Engineering and also holds a masters degree in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Scott R. Devens
Sr. Vice President Field Operations
Devens is responsible for all Sales, Marketing and Consulting activities at Core Security. Scott joins CORE from Courion Corporation, a global provider of Identity and Access Management solutions, where he was responsible for Global Sales. Prior to Courion Scott was an executive with Talend SA, a global technology company whose application integration business he launched in 2011. He joined Talend in 2010 when it acquired Sopera, a service-oriented architecture company he expanded internationally as CEO. Prior to Sopera, Scott was vice president of global sales and alliances for Progress Software (NASDAQ: PRGS), where he led direct and channel sales operations. Scott joined Progress following its acquisition of IONA, a publically traded middleware software company where he was an executive officer and senior vice president of global sales. Scott has also held senior sales and general management positions at EMC.
Scott earned an MBA from Nichols College and holds a BS in Business Administration from Bryant University.
Eric W. Cowperthwaite
Vice President, Advanced Security and Strategy
Eric is responsible for market directions, strategy and product placement for Core Security. Working with sales, marketing, product development, support and market development and strategy, he focuses on increasing market adoption and awareness of CORE’s solutions. He works with the CORE team and industry leaders to achieve mind share and product presence across a broad spectrum of the information security industry.
Eric has nearly 30 years experience as a security practitioner and leader in both civilian and military settings. Most recently he was System Director, Enterprise Security & Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of Providence Health & Services, overseeing IT security for 32 hospitals and more than 65,000 employees. Prior to Providence, Eric worked for EDS for ten years. He worked in the Chief Security and Privacy Office of EDS, US Government Services, Security and Privacy Professional Services and U.S. Consulting. He attended California State University, Sacramento and earned a BS in Computer Engineering.

Vice President, Enterprise Field Sales
Terry Holberton is Vice President, Enterprise Field Sales, The Americas, and responsible for managing the field sales and partners for Core Security, focused on North and South America. With more than 20 years of sales executive experience with a variety of technology companies, Terry brings a proven track record of delivering sales results, and solving customer problems for enterprises and medium businesses.
Prior to being named Vice President, Enterprise Field Sales at CORE, he was the Director, Enterprise Field Sales for CORE Insight Enterprise, Worldwide, and Regional Manager for the Western United States for CORE for the past three years. Before joining CORE, Terry held senior sales executive and management positions with Oracle, Cast Software, and CA, Inc.
Terry graduated from The University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree, and later served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps.
Flavio de Cristofaro
Vice President of Engineering for Professional Products
As Vice President of Engineering for Professional Products, Flavio de Cristofaro oversees the design, development and testing of Core Security professional products. His primary focus is on building and evolving CORE Impact Pro as well as introducing new professional products into the marketplace.
Mr. de Cristofaro has over 10 years of experience in penetration testing and IT security, having led onsite and remote penetration testing engagements for several clients worldwide. Prior to joining the Engineering team, he led the Core Security Consulting Services practice where he coordinated leading-edge penetration testing services for multiple global organizations and drove 50% year-over-year growth in services revenue. Prior to joining CORE, he worked at Deloitte leading one of the global penetration testing centers located in Argentina. He also taught at ITBA University in Argentina until 2004.
Flavio graduated as an Electronics Engineer from Instituto Tecnologico de Buenos Aires Argentina and holds an MBA from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
Vice President, Marketing
Pat Walsh is responsible for all Core Security Marketing and messaging strategies, programs and activities, he has more than twenty years of experience marketing and consulting to the infrastructure software industry. Most recently, Pat was the CMO of Talend, Inc., an open-source provider of enterprise integration solutions, where he re-positioned the brand and product portfolio to sell big data integration solutions into enterprise accounts.
Prior to Talend, he was the VP of marketing at Progress Software, where he re-focused the company’s products into a set of coherent go-to-market offerings for the integration, application development and data management markets. Pat joined Progress as a result of the acquisition of IONA Technologies, where as VP of marketing, he successfully launched a portfolio of open source and commercial products in the integration space. Earlier in his career, he was director of product marketing and product management at Solid Information Technology, a Finnish-based embedded database company that was sold to IBM and he spent ten years at HP leading a consulting practice specializing in networking and information security.
Pat received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College with majors in Engineering and Economics. He also has a Masters in Engineering Management from Dartmouth.
Director, Strategic Alliances & Partner Enablement
Joe Schramm is the Director of Strategic Alliances where he has the responsibility to develop CORE’s channel partner ecosystem, as well as identify and build relationships with industry technology partners, solution providers and system integrators. Since joining Core in early 2012, Joe has led the creation and launch of the CORE Secured™ partner program, helping drive the acquisition of over 20 new alliances for the firm.
With a strong background in both technology and business, Joe has worked with companies across a variety of industries to help deliver solutions that have improved their operational performance. Joe has over 25 years of experience in working with leading software firms such as SAP, Crystal Decisions, Business Objects, Oco, Inc. and Endeca.
Joe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bryant University. Joe is also an active member of the Jason Constantino Scholarship Foundation, a charity that provides financial assistance for students of Bryant University, meningitis research, and several other charitable causes.
