LAS VEGAS--White hat hackers who perform penetration tests for a living may soon find their jobs a lot easier, with the help of an automated, comprehensive network cracking tool researchers outlined here Thursday.
Presenting at the Black Hat information security conference, engineers with Argentina-based CORE-SDI said sophisticated software could automate much of the work of cracking a company's network, from gathering intelligence about the target, mapping the network, finding vulnerabilities, building custom code for exploiting those vulnerabilities, then escalating privileges from within the network.
